New Found Love !

It had to happen, sometime or the other but, happened last Friday. With all the stars shinning bright on me, both a notebook and a digital camera managed to find my sweet company. This calls for celebration considering the initial lack lustre weeks of my inhabitance in this place. I'd love to divulge into the gory details of my new found love, but for now this link just about provides enough information for the world to envy :-) and here is a picture

My new canon S410 is another exciting experience in its own scheme of things. I had actually ordered for the piece online at Dell's site earlier in the week, on Friday I had a shocking surprise waiting at my door step. Normally, such expensive consignments get delivered to the apartment office if the resident is not available during delivery. I didn't expect the DHL guy to leave the piece at my door step; it's so conspicuous that anyone if wanted could have flicked it without a slightest problem. Luckily it stayed put at my doorstep until I arrived. Something scary about the camera is that it came with a ~100 page manual. I simply don't have the patience to go through it. I personally would appreciate designs that are self explanatory and suggestive, the book "Design of Everyday Things" really did get me thinking seriously about designs of products that we happen to come across in our day to day life. The camera has pretty good design and suggestive controls; I managed to take few simple pictures without having to go through the manual.

However best I try to refrain from talking about my notebook simply cannot resist talking about it. Things I love about the notebook; The nippy centrino processor, I've never seen WinXP booting up so quickly, it's like the BIOS screen for 2 seconds, the Windows Loading bar for 3 seconds and poof! the login screen. Effectively 5 to 7 seconds to come up, surprisingly shutdown takes almost the same time. The battery life; a whooping 3 hours and 15 minutes. The charging time from 0 to 100% is like 1 hour 30 minutes, think that's pretty normal. The sexy 15.4 WXGA ! I have a problem though, I have to sway my head from left to right when I have the notebook close to my body and read stuff on the screen :-). I am not sure how I am going to fill my hard disk, 60GB is seriously an issue ! With this baby on my lap, will never have a problem blogging regularly from now on.

Friday yeah..! has always been special to me, so was the last one. Picked up some videos which included some Adam Sandler movies, "Monty Python and the Holy Grail" and George Orwell's book - "Nineteen Eight Four" to keep myself occupied during the weekend. I was reading through the "Introduction" part of the book which, essentially talks about the author's life and achievements. George Orwell was born in Bengal, which makes him Indian; His original name was Eric Arthur Blair. Before taking writing seriously it seems he worked for the Imperial Police in Burma. Another interesting piece of information, "Animal Farm" apart from being a poignant fable that expresses a point and purpose for improving the society which we all know had this other satirical parallel about the events in the erstwhile Soviet History. Old Major, the rebellious Pig was created with Marx in background, Napoleon and Snowball as Stalin and Trotsky. It seems the replacement of Old Major's revolutionary song by a sycophantic one praising Napoleon marks the abandonment of the "Internationale" as the official Russian national anthem and the eulogies of Stalin in paintings and poems.

Well, lets see what more life has to offer next Friday :-)
